The PROGRAM: Alternative Credits, Sonoma Valley High School. This program allows students to enroll in courses through accredited colleges and universities to further their studies. Students can use this program to explore courses in fields of interest and bolster their academic resume. A student who likes Math, for example, and has been enrolled in a continuum of courses through the school, can choose to enroll in a Math class that adds further to their transcript and knowledge. A student may also want to take a summer course that then allows them to take a Honors or AP course through the high school.
STARTING THE PROCESS: Students and parents wanting to leverage this program for their student would do the following:
5. Complete high school Alternative Credit Policy application (see links on About Us)
CONNECT WITH SOAR SONOMA: Begin the process of applying for financial assistance with SOAR Sonoma. The Application is on the About Us page. Upon confirmation, SOAR Sonoma will pay fees directly to the college selected.
For eligible students, we will cover the cost of application and course fees, and any required course materials or textbooks. To be eligible, students must:
Read the policy and find out if your course earns you SVHS credit. We've got your fees and course materials covered if you qualify and need assistance.
Find a course or even several that support your goals. Do well - apply yourself and earn a B- or better...
Go further in your studies - anywhere! For qualified students, we will put forward an additional $2,000 to support you after high school. The scholarship can be used for any community college, 4 year college or vocational school, certificate program as a continuation of studies or to cover any education costs.
If funds are limited and demand is higher than available funds, there would be an application and selection process, however, the goal is to support all students who qualify.
To qualify, students must 1) have worked with SOAR Sonoma, 2) have taken at minimum one 3 or 5 credit hour course, 3) completed the SOAR application, and 4) complete that course while dual enrolled as a high school student earning a B- or better. Over time, we reserve the right to adjust these requirements based upon funding or evolution of our program.
